CONSIDERATION OF THE PROCEDURE OF COMIC ANTHROPOMORPHIZATION OF ANIMALS AND OBJECTS IN THE NOVEL PRIEST ĆIRA AND PRIEST SPIRA (1898) BY STEVAN SREMAC

Abstract

The subject of the paper is the consideration of the procedure of comic anthropomorphization of animals and objects in the novel Pop Ćira i pop Spira (1898) by Stevan Sremac, emphasizing the poetic similarity with the short story Kir Geras (1903). Starting from the assumption that Sremac does not make an essential distinction when portraying people and animals in his novel Pop Ćira i pop Spira, and even more broadly in his humorous storytelling, we tried to show how the comic shaping of portraits of animals and objects through their anthropomorphization and personification contributed to the humor of Sremac's narration. An important part is devoted to the relations that the writer establishes between the characters and animals from their immediate environment. The mechanisms by which Sremac's good-natured romantic laughter was shaped were also discussed. We have considered the successful use of stylistic figures, personification, comparison and irony in the example of the most impressive portraits: a duck, a cat and a wall clock. In the final part of the work, a brief overview of the special authenticity brought by the realist poetics of Stevan Sremac is given, distinguishing this writer from domestic creators of the same era. We believe that these stylistic actions contributed to the vividness of Sremac's expression, thus making him one of the writers most suitable for transposition into modern and contemporary media.
