AN OPINION ON WOMEN AND EDUCATION: PAULINA LEBL ALBALA

Abstract

This paper explores the topic of education and education of women in works of Paulina Lebl Albala, more specifically, her memoirs Tako je nekad bilo and some essays on women attending university at the beginning of the 20th century and a reading crisis, which is a subject still relevant today, at the beginning of 21st century. Tako je nekad bilo and its main theme of the author's personal experience in various schools is a testimony of the uncertainty and hardship that the women of the period faced when seeking higher education. This paper also studies the cult of the teacher, which Lebl Albala established at every level of education, along with analyzing different teaching approaches she encountered on her journey. Lebl Albala pays special attention to her famous university professors, Bogdan and Pavle Popović and Jovan Skerlić, which is why her work offers a precious perspective on those famous figures of Serbian literary history. This paper also explores the topics and themes of the work of Paulina Lebl Albala that are important to a contemporary literature teacher.
