Although they were created in different periods, these two literary works are determined in a specific way by the carnival atmosphere. Through a gradual interpretation, the paper will point out several similarities in the execution of the joke/hoax in Držić's and Tomić's work. The focus of the analysis will be on the characters of the cheated, Marin from Split and Stanac the Herzegovinian peasant, as well as a group of characters who carry out the prank. The fraud, realized in varying degrees of crudeness, establishes a mechanism that is identical, which confirms the universal nature of the works of Držić and Tomić, as well as the presence of the spirit of Držić's creativity in our time. With this work, we try to point out the possibility of new readings of Držić's work, as well as contemporary prose.</p> Нина В. In order to illustrate the content similarities as much as possible, an individual interpretation of each work was carried out, in which the presence of common motifs was noted. At the same time, with reference to the historical context and the one-century delay of Enlightenment ideas in our area, the differences in their narratological transformations are followed.</p> Јелена Б. Extending knowledge about the relationships between actants, Anne Ubersfeld (1976) applies Greimas’ actantial model to dramatic texts, leaving the possibility that her actantial model can also be applied to the analysis of non-dramatic texts. The subject of this paper is the analysis of the fairy tale Prince Charmer (Le Prince Charmant) by the French writer and pedagogue from the Age of Enlightenment, Jeanne Marie Leprince de Beaumont. In addition to being considered by literary critics as one of the founders of French children’s literature, Jeanne Marie Leprince de Beaumont is also considered a prominent adherent of the religious Enlightenment. Prince Charmer is a moralist fairy tale extracted from the author’s most famous work – The Young Misses Magazine (Le Magasin des enfants), published in 1756. Through the interpretation of this fairy tale according to Anne Ubersfeld’s actantial model, in this paper, we identify and classify actants into six established fields (subject, object, sender, receiver, helper and opponent), and then follow with an analysis of several possible actantial models.</p> Nebojša S. In the first section, it was important to explain the importance of Milovan Glišić in the era of Serbian realism. The poetics of Milovan Glišić's creativity was observed in contact with Gogol's type of fantasy, through parallel connections, but also certain poetic differences, but also bringing it into connection with the poetics of the Serbian realist short story in which it is constituted as a certain turning point, in the spirit of folklore fantasy. Then, in the context of a better understanding of this author's work, the way of using specific speech in this work is presented, through examples, especially through the story of Brother Mata. In this way, it was possible to see how the vampire story is constructed, who the witnesses are, but also who does not believe in the story, who deconstructs it. Specica's archetypal oppositions in images of the world are also presented, more specifically, in the concepts of good and evil, derived from folk beliefs, which are necessary for a proper understanding of the stories presented. The most significant were oppositions in terms of temporal and spatial determinants, i.e. space inside: outside, day: night, village: city. The story After Ninety Years is analyzed in two ways: on the one hand, it is viewed through the postulates of a fairy tale, where the main event shows the course of the hero's rite of passage, in which he goes through the phase of separation, the liminal phase and the aggregation phase; on the other hand, the vampire part of the story consistently follows popular belief - from the characterization of the vampire himself, his behavior, until the discovery of the grave and its destruction. In the analysis of Brother Mata's story, the attention was focused mostly on the representation of the vampire motive, which was presented in a humorous way. That folklore fantasy and the unchanged fear of man from the appearance and encounter with demonic beings served as a source for the contemporary Serbian short story, but also as inspiration and material for contemporary and more voluminous prose works.</p> Александра С. IT'S ME, MARGARET https://zjik.ff.uns.ac.rs/index.php/zjik/article/view/2293 <p>Judy Blume's young adult novel Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. (1970) was adapted into a movie fifty-three years after its initial publication. This research focuses on analyzing the transposition of two key themes from the novel: religion and menstruation. The film's narrative was not modernized, turning the adaptation into a double act: converting the work to a new medium while also highlighting societal shifts over five decades. In contrast, the film's portrayal of religion and Margaret's idea of God resulted in certain shifts in meaning due to the specifics of translating a literary narrative into a cinematic one. The main aim of this paper is to critically examine these key elements of adaptation, as well as to explore the public impact of the film.</p> Сара Ж. An analysis of Kiša i hartija by Vladimir Tasić and Život pesnika by Slobodan Tišma provides insight into how music and performance greatly impact how a city is perceived. Additionally, it provides a glimpse into the metamorphosis of a “visible” city into one that is “invisible”, a transcendental, personal city. The visible, external city is a spacetime resembling a megacity, where the main characters are confined. In contrast, the invisible, internal city, which is both transcendental and personal, symbolizes a realm where liberty is attained and personal identity is safeguarded by those who roam this space. The conquest of such space and the transformation of a megalopolis into a “personal” city are achieved through music, how it is experienced, and performance, how it is executed.</p> Јелена З. Зеленовић ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2024-12-11 2024-12-11 14 14 81 94 10.19090/zjik.2024.14.81-94 ART BENEATH THE GALLOWS: VILLON, RIMBAUD AND DAVIČO AS ALTERNATIVE VOICES OF A HISTORICAL PERIOD https://zjik.ff.uns.ac.rs/index.php/zjik/article/view/2295 <p>Among the most obviously visible aspects of François Villon, Arthur Rimbaud and Oskar Davičo as not only poetic voices, but, in general, as persons in a cultural period, was their relationship towards artistic and political praxis, as well as towards literary language, form, and consequently, more or less explicitly, towards the relationship between thought, consciousness and language. Partaking directly in the social of their epochs, and merging their singularly innovative stylistic expression with their subversive political orientation in the midst of these events, the three poets form a sort of chronological axis of poetics. In this paper, through comparative analysis, we intend to, first and foremost, interpret the works of Oskar Davičo in light of the two earlier poets, as his historical forerunners or analogues. This is to be done by means of three different aspects: the aforementioned matter of language, consciousness and form; then, the matter of the concept of the body and the physical; and finally, as the synthesis of the two former aspects, the matter of daily life as reflected in the poetry of these poets, and likewise, the position of the lyrical subject, the self, in their opus.</p> Павле З. Зељић ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2024-12-11 2024-12-11 14 14 95 106 10.19090/zjik.2024.14.95-106 QUENEAU’S EXERCISES IN STYLE TRANSLATED BY DANILO KIŠ: METAPLASM https://zjik.ff.uns.ac.rs/index.php/zjik/article/view/2296 <p>The paper will present an analysis of the translation of a group of texts within Remond Queneau’ s Exercises in Style, namely those dominated by stylistic devices which, according to the classification given by the Group μ in General Rhetoric (Groupe μ, Rhétorique générale, 1970, Paris: Larousse), are included under the name of metaplasm. Metaplasms represent alterations in the pronunciation or the orthography of a word, i.e. they change the established form of the word as a set of phonemes or syllables. The analysis of the Serbian translation made by Danilo Kiš (which remains the only translation of this book into Serbian) is based on Peter Newmark’s theory of equivalence, especially from the point of view of his concepts of semantic translation and equivalent effect. The results of the analysis were observed from the perspective of the theoretical principles of Antoine Berman and Walter Benjamin on literal translation, in order to determine to what extent the principle of literal translation is possible and achieved in the translation. The results of the translatological analysis, first of all, confirm that the translation method is adapted to the expressive function of the text and that it is a semantic translation, which, at the same time, causes an equivalent effect. The principle of literal translation is recognized in the application of the same stylistic procedure to the literally translated basic text.</p> Марија В. Contrary to the prevalent practice of mechanical copying of English words, this paper aims to encourage readers and potential translators to rise to the challenge of translating lexical blends and delve into the creative world of blending in Serbian. The corpus for this small-scale research consisted of 40 English blends and 40 author’s translation equivalents. The theoretical framework for this paper is based on a new structural typology of blends in English proposed by Lalić-Krstin (2022). The results show that blending in Serbian is indeed a prolific word-formation process with multiple structural patterns. The two most frequently observed structural patterns are the prototypical pattern, where the initial part of the first source word is blended with the final part of the second source word, and a pattern where the first source word is blended with the final part of the second source word. Other structural patterns, although not exploited to a greater degree, indicate the availability of diverse blending patterns in the Serbian language. Finally, as a modest contribution, a practical first-hand guide for translating blends is offered.</p> Tamara S. Since translation is a complex process that includes numerous factors, strategies, and knowledge that the translator should have at his disposal, it is necessary to take into account what changes the translators make to the translation itself and what function these changes have in the end. The aim of this study is to analyze the manipulation in the translations of Grimm’s fairy tale Ivica and Marica from German to Serbian, i.e. to identify examples in which it is clear that this is a certain form of manipulation, and in this way to show how suitable fairy tales are for the manipulation of their content.</p> Milica V. The first part briefly elaborates on the process of language standardization and further on the mystification of this process reflected in phenomena such as language prescriptivism and purism, which tend to be accepted as a “common sense” attitude to what the nature of language is and what it should be. The next part describes various consequences of the ideology: language anxiety and schizoglossia in speakers, linguistic violence, and the exclusion of speakers from the public discourse. In its final part, the paper appeals to the moral responsibility of linguists and calls upon their engagement in reducing and overcoming the damaging effects of the standard language ideology.</p> Nastasja M.
